The Process
A sub-page within the site with sub-navigation and FIR header text
The new head of school contacted me about working on a redesign of their website. She had already accomplished much of the work herself including a well thought out site architecture and much of the text content developed. She had also purchased a few books on Dreamweaver with the intention of designing the site herself. With time sneaking up before the new school year, she called me saying that she had bit off more than she could chew in a redesign.
I started minor tweaks to the site architecture and created a few mockups. After choosing one with the new head of school and print graphic designer, I created the template in XHTML and CSS and populated the content already developed. We quickly launched the site near the beginning of the new school year with a new hosting company. The head of school continues to update the site with her Dreamweaver skills.
One additional tidbit is that we used FIR to swap out header text with an image to keep font usage consistent with the school’s print materials. At the time, this was an accepted technique for style and accessibility. However, this technique is no longer recommended.
