Client: Bell Museum, University of Minnesota, Outhouse Exhibit Services, Heinzen Media

Role: Exhibit design and Interactive Design

Primary Goal: Celebrate the Bell Museum’s 150th anniversary with an exhibit focused on their study of birds.

The Bell Museum conducts collections-based research and showcases the ways people connect with nature, especially birds. To celebrate their 150 year anniversary, the Bell Museum wanted an exhibit that highlights the wonders of birds as well as the the institution’s contributions to science.

Drumminhands Design stepped in halfway through the project taking on 3D Exhibit Design. We created 3D models of the exhibit space, specified casework requirements, and helped facilitate content development.

Additionally, we created a touch screen interactive focused on the science of birds. Visitors test their scientific prowess, trying to match bird family trees based on morphology. Then visitors test their assumptions against DNA research, revealing surprising relationships between birds.
